More info

A set of 8 brass cylindrical measures for the use of the War Office.

Manufactured by Avery De Grave of London in 1964.

Each measure has a glass “Striker Plate” which ensures that the amount of liquid is exact.

Each measure is numbered 7718 and stamped with portcullis and dated.

A Board Of Trade calibration certificate dated 1965 is also included.

The measures are in the following sizes:

¼ gill (35.5 ml), ½ gill (71 ml), 1 gill (142 ml, ½ pint (284 ml)

1 pint (568 ml), 1 quart (1.137 ltr), ½ gallon (2.273 ltr), 1 gallon (4.546 ltr)

These measures have not seen the light of day since the 1960’s as can be seen in the photos. They will need cleaning. Professional cleaning is recommended unless you really like cleaning and polishing brass!

The fitted storage chest is made from mahogany and measures 31” x 17 ½” x 10” (79 x 44.5 x 25.5 cm)

There are 2 pairs of carry handles (1 each end) snap catches at the front (lock and key also included)

A brass descriptive plate is in the centre of the lid.

Approximate weight 50 kilos.

We believe these to be in unused condition but cannot guarantee this.

All marks and tarnishing is a result of long term storage.
